5 awesome apps to make driving safer & easier

by Tiffiny Carlson

There's an app for everything. While I'm still waiting for an app that can diagnose wheelchair problems, loads of other amazing apps are being developed for other important situations, including those designed to make driving a whole lot easier (and safer too). But don't download just any old app. Check out the driving apps below for a peek at some the best ones available.
Find My Car: No one likes wandering in a sea of cars, looking for their vehicle for hours on end. The Find My Car app will come to the rescue if you've forgotten where you parked. The simple app will only work with your help first. You need to make sure to save your car's location on your phone's GPS before leaving your car so it can find your car if you need it you. This app uses Google Navigation and it also includes a compass, which you can still use if your phone is not online.

iOnRoad: It's usually never a good idea to use your phone when you're driving (if you can help it), but if you're new to driving, or maybe are just worried about your driving abilities (maybe you're going on a long road trip and are worried about getting sleepy), the iOnRoad app is one amazing app. This app uses your phone's camera and GPS to alert you to the proximity of nearby vehicles, helping prevent possible collisions. The app has built-in sensors that do the alerting and it gives audiovisual warnings if you get too close to another vehicle. And your phone is mounted on your dash when this app is in use.

aCar: Everyone could use a reminder for maintenance for their vehicle, and the aCar app is just the ticket to make sure you never forget your next oil change. This free app tracks your fuel mileage and also tracks mileage and expenses for business-related travel. It also gives a great run down of how much you spend on gas each month and even the average you paid per gallon. aCar can be used on more than one vehicle.
AAA Roadside: Vehicles will inevitably break, and when they do you'll be glad you installed a roadside assistance app on your phone. One of the best out there is the AAA roadside assistance app. It's free and it makes it a whole lot easier to contact AAA if your car needs assistance. The app will send your location to the nearest road service, who then sends someone out to assist you. And this app eliminates the need of having to keep your card on your person.

iExit: Finally, when you're near your destination, the iExit app is a simple and easy way to find out what's coming up, in real-time, at the next interchange and interstate. It tells you where nearby restaurants, hotels and gas stations are at your upcoming exit, helping you find exactly what you're looking for in the fastest time possible. A great app for road trips.

These driving apps are just a sampling of some of the best ones out there. Remember, you can always search for a specific app (if you're looking for one to cater to a specific driving issue), if you don't see it listed here. Happy driving!
