Halloween Wheelchair Costume Hall of Fame

by Tiffiny Carlson

Halloween is almost here! What will YOU be wearing? If you use a wheelchair, you could dress up as a movie/TV character in a wheelchair, like Jake from Avatar, Lieutenant Dan from Forrest Gump, Professor X from X Men or Timmy from South Park. Or you could do something a bit more creative.

Why not work your wheelchair into your costume? Find a brilliant idea where your wheelchair actually helps make your costume better, and that more realistic. There are seriously endless ideas out there.

Looking for a costume this year thatll blow away your family and friends? These best of the best wheelchair costume ideas should do the trick.

Wheelchair DJ

Anyone who loves music (me!) will love this idea. A spray painted cardboard box, positioned perfectly on the wheelchair and it stays there all night using duct tape, this idea could go country, techno or even talk radio.

Beehive

This has got to be one of my favorites. A beehive, with the wheelchair-user being the queen bee in the center, this costume just screams adorable. Made out of swimming noodles for the pool, this would be a relatively easy costume to recreate.

Shark Cage

Made out of cardboard and plastic tubes, this diver in a shark cage costume, with s shark swimming on the outside, took some serious workmanship (this costume is perfect for cold weather climates).

Cleopatra

Cleopatra and her winged throne has been recreated in this lucky girl's Halloween costume, using brightly spray painted cardboard and a bunch of Egyptian accessories. Any royal figure can also be totes easily recreated for a wheelchair-user because of the whole throne thing.

Space Shuttle

What a great way to commemorate the retirement of the space shuttle! This awesome costume is made from cardboard and fits over the entire chair.  All you need is an orange jumpsuit and youre set.

Wilma

Another costume I've always wanted to do. As you can see it takes serious skills, too.  Made out of fake wood, a cotton canopy, with the front roller made out of a spray painted plastic jug, this Wilma costume (from the Flintstones) is absolutely amazing (i.e., will win contests).

Trucker

This trucker costume also showcases some incredible cardboard workmanship. You could sport your dream a handlebar mustache in this get-up.

R2D2

R2D2 is a hugely popular character from Star Wars. Anyone in this costume is guaranteed to have a good night out (hopefully your arms will be able to move a bit better than this little guys).

Speed Racer

Anyone into cars can totally get into this idea. You can do this idea (cardboard front, and back) with race cars, NASCAR cars, even your favorite sports car or vintage car.

Cinderella

Could this costume be any cuter? All you have to do is get a bunch of fabric to make it look like the skirt is just really big and so it completely hides the wheelchair (duct tape is essential for this costume too, since  it makes sure the fabric doesn't drop down into the wheels).

Tron

Tron in a wheelchair. Need I say more?  I love the lights on the wheels.

Pee Wee with Cherry

Holy creativity! Pee Wee Herman sitting on his favorite chair, 'Cherry,' from his morning show Pee-Wee's Playhouse (I really wish I would've come up with this idea!). A grey tux, a red bow tie, and a bunch of light blue fabric is all you need.

Do you love Halloween? Share with us youre favorite costume youve ever done. Well post it!
