Sirens of Chrome

by Ian Minicuci, Product Specialist, VPG
For those of you that do not know me my name is Ian Minicuci. I am currently employed as a Product Specialist for VPG Autos, makers of the VERY COOL MV-1. When not working for VPG I am employed as a Product Specialist for GM and have been since 2003. When not doing either of those I dabble in the acting world, which brings me to the point (yes, finally) of this blog. The president of the company I contract for with General Motors to do the autoshow circuit is the author of a book called Sirens of Chrome. This book has been turned into "a docudrama-styled motion picture that focuses on how the ingenious pairing of beautiful women and cars has influenced five generations of global fashion, commerce, romance and status." (Executive Producer Margery Krevsky, Producer/Director John P. Lauri)
Now, I can hear some of you saying, Ian, what do you have to do with beautiful women?" The answer - I work with them, as a Product Specialist, and if you recall, I dabble in acting. More importantly, like the old saying goes, its not what you know but who you know that counts and I know the director. This is how I was able to secure VPG and the MV-1  a part in this film.

Saturday, January 19th, was the opening of the NAIAS here in Detroit and after speaking with the director about VPG and the MV-1 he was very interested in filming myself and, more importantly, the MV-1. Knowing this, I spoke with Leo Darocha from VPG and he was able to secure the MV-1  for us to use for filming. On Saturday (with the help of Jerod Chockley), I met with John P. Lauri at Cobo Hall in Detroit where he filmed me working the floor as a Product Specialist and then we had the ability (thank you Jerod) to film the MV-1 on the streets of Detroit.

All in all, a great day to bring awareness to VPG and the MV-1. Happy Motoring!

A Healthy Start to 2013

by Courtney Cooley, VPG PR & Digital Marketing Manager

Today we kicked off the new year with a health and fitness mentoring session at River Rouge High School for the Women of Tomorrow (WOT) Mentor and Scholarship Program.  VPG mentors and River Rouge students gathered in the school auditorium for a fitness class taught by our own Mary Bourke, VPG Powertrain Partition Program Manager, who happens to also be a certified fitness instructor with over 20 years of experience.  Mary led an energizing, fast-paced work-out with fun music which was followed by a healthy lunch of turkey sandwiches, pretzels, apples, granola bars and bottled water.

Mary gave fitness tips to the girls and handed out personal monthly exercise logs and a fact sheet on exercise, encouraging the girls to keep records of their regular exercise, either on their own or with a friend.  Experts recommend that teens get 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.  She pulled some of her information on teen health from Teenshealth by Nemours online, which included basic information about three components of a well-balanced routine:  aerobic exercise, strength training and flexibility training.

Also included were some highlighted rewards and benefits of teen exercise, which apply to adults as well:
  • Exercise benefits every part of the body, including the mind. It can help some people sleep better and can improve mild depression and low self-esteem.
  • Exercise can help you look better because it allows you to burn more calories and be more toned.
  • Exercise helps people lose weight and lower the risk of some diseases, including type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
  • Exercise can help a person age well, keeping your bones strong to avoid osteoporosis later in life.
VPG mentors enjoyed the fitness class with the students and shared our experiences and exercise habits over lunch, emphasizing the strong connection between healthy bodies and healthy minds. As you begin your new year, are you making resolutions to exercise more and eat better?
